front cover creation process
The first step of my creation process was adding the black banner at the top of the page and then adding the text "music + news + fashion + drama" in the colour white so it stands out from the black background to the reader. In this step i also added the masthead, "ghrime" just under the banner so it is one of the first things the reader looks at on the magazine, as they know what magazine it is.
The second stage was me adding an edited image that i took on to the page.
I then added the selling line under the masthead which is "the UK's best selling grime magazine." This was very important for the magazine as could be the difference between the magazine being sold or not, as it persuades the customer to buy the magazine. Another thing i added was the bar code at the bottom right of the page so that the magazine can be scanned and therefore sold in a shop. I was going to add the price in text just above the bar code, but as the price will be shown on the shelf and by including it on the page it will be a waste of space. The other things i added in this stage was the date and the ghrime web address near the masthead. I included the date as it is a common convention and readers know if its the most recent issue.
In the fourth step i added cover lines at the bottom left of the page, so that readers know who is in this issue. Therefore if a reader sees a name they are interesting in reading about they will then buy the magazine. For the cover lines itself are in back but the plus above them is in white so that it this part of the page stands out as white stands out from a dark background.
I then added my main cover line which was about D.Payne opening up about his past. This like the plus at the bottom left of the page is in white so that it stands out and it should because it is the story that hopefully readers are willing to pay for. The quote "i don't know how i was going to cope" is on two lines and are not straight as it then covers the whole width of the cover line "D.Payne" which makes it look more professional.
The last stage involved two things, the starburst and the second main cover line. The starburst is positioned at the top left of the page which is below the selling line. To stand out on the page the circle is white and the text "limited edition poster inside" is in black so that it stands out on the page. This is important for it to stand out as it could persuaded the reading into buying the magazine as it is "limited edition."The second main cover line is in black and is positioned at the back of the models head in the main image. This is a more popular artist to Skepta for example so even though they both have an article inside, Stormzy has got supporting lines about his article. This is because Stormzy has a bigger fan base so more people would be willing to buy the magazine. So as the magazine makes "more of a fuss" about Stromzy customers will see this before the word Skepta so would want to read the article.
House Style
I want my font for my masthead to be bold so that it stands out on a page and therefore makes it the first thing the reader will look at on the page. The fonts I could use are fonts like agent orange which I used for my school magazine and was effective. However for my main text I will not use a bold font but I still want the reader to see that it is there. I will do this by using a font that is clear so that the reader can read it easy and a the text colour to be opposite to the background so it stands out.
The colours I will use are dark colours as grime magazines like rwd use dark backgrounds to convey the dangerous stereotypical image of a grime artist.
The choices I have made for my fonts and colours do not match my brand identity as I wanted to challenge the negative stereotypes of people associated to do with grime music, however I will still do this by the text I will use. This includes the stories I will include and how I word my starbursts and cover lines.

Questionnaire Analysis
This
bar chart shows that the majority of people that did my survey was male. This
was a problem as the answers are from a male prospective and I wanted it from
both genders because that was my target audience for my magazine.
Out
of seven responses on this question, five where over six-teen. This was a small
issue in using these result as under elevens was not in my target audience and
they might like something that six-teen to twenty-five year old like.
I had a total of eight responses which the answers were
scattered across; Jazz, Grime, Pop and other. The votes went to Pop and Grime
on three votes for both of them. Even though I was going to make a grime
magazine, these results told me to use artists like Ed Sheeran who works with
grime artists. This would make my magazine appeal to more people therefore more
magazines would be sold.
This
question was a text box answer and the answers consisted of artists like;
Stormzy, JME, Cadet, Drake and Chipmunk. This artists would be used in my
magazine.
These
results was not as i thought it would go as 75% of my responses said that they
never purchase music magazines. Hopefully my magazine will be successful and
change the trend of people no longer purchasing music magazines.
The
main response I got off these answers was the price and who features in the
magazine. Therefore I will keep the price of this magazine low and use
well-known people in my magazine.
This
answer was how I thought it would go as the majority of responses was saying
they use phone to listen to music as It is easier to access.
This
bar chart shows that the answers for this question was that they rarely/never
go to concerts or gigs. So in my magazine I will not promote concerts or gigs
as people do not want to see this.
This answer was very encouraging for me as every who
answered this question said that they like music and that’s the whole point of
my magazine. Therefore, showing me that there is a market for a music magazine.
As a result of the result of this question I will be using
the fourth masthead I showed, which is “ghrime” in a lemon milk font.
Final chosen masthead
This is my chosen masthead which i will use for my front cover. This font is called lemon milk and i have chosen this because it stand s out and that`s what i need for my front cover.
Masthead designs for 4 titles.
