Target Audience, Brand identity and Values

Target audience The genre of music I have chosen for my music magazine is grime because I would like to see how magazines like fader incorporate negative stereotypes in their magazine then seeing how I could also incorporate them in my music magazine. I currently have an interest in grime as I listen to grime artists like; Skepta, Yungen and Chipmunk on a daily basis. These grime artists mainly target 16-25 year olds (teenagers and young adults) from both genders, this target audience is what I want to have as my target audience for my music magazine because the people who will read my magazine like grime music. To fulfil my target audience, I could convey the struggles of the grime artist’s life by the use of images which other grime magazines like fader do. Also, another way I could appeal to my target audience is by fashion and clothing because the majority of people that listen to grime music wear the same sort of brands like Adidas and Nike. A different way that I can appeal to my target audience is by including a variety of grime artists. The reason why I may include artists like Chipmunk and JME is because it may appeal to more people as they might not like what else is in the magazine but because it has their favourite artist in it, may persuade them to purchase the magazine. Brand Identity and Values I want my magazine to be informative as well as being fun and exciting at the same time. I will do this by using a variety of techniques on my front cover, for example; Mastheads, Starbursts and Images. From using this technique on my front cover it will hopefully attract more potential buyers because it will instantly recognisable and will immediately inform the reader what the magazine will cover. Before I will make my magazine I will research other magazines that also cover grime music, the magazines I will research will be GRM and Fader. From looking at these magazines I will hopefully learn how the magazine uses different techniques in order to attract the reader. The reason why I have chosen to look at these magazines not other grime magazine that are not as popular because the more popular magazines have a recognisable front cover, which I am trying to create because then it is more likely to be more successful. I want my brand to be known as a successful brand because I want my magazine to become the powerhouse of the grime magazine world. If I portray my brand as an ethically right brand by combating the negative stereotypes grime has, these negative stereotypes are that the police are against black people. I want my magazine to be different from current grime magazines, one way I can do this is by subverting convection's. I can do this by changing things that every grime magazine does for example moving the position of the masthead, however I will look to change one of the subvert convection's when I research other grime magazines. I will do this to make my magazine unique and then might make my magazine more attractive to potential customers. A way that I can create a fun and exciting magazine is by making an informal magazine. As a result of this it will help to create a sense of the magazine talking to the reader, which helps the reader attention stay with the magazine. Currently, grime music promotes police being against black people, I will try to combat this by making black people feel wanted in society by the text I include in the magazine.
