front cover creation process

The first step of my creation process was adding the black banner at the top of the page and then adding the text "music + news + fashion + drama" in the colour white so it stands out from the black background to the reader. In this step i also added the masthead, "ghrime" just under the banner so it is one of the first things the reader looks at on the magazine, as they know what magazine it is.

The second stage was me adding an edited image that i took on to the page.

I then added the selling line under the masthead which is "the UK's best selling grime magazine." This was very important for the magazine as could be the difference between the magazine being sold or not, as it persuades the customer to buy the magazine. Another thing i added was the bar code at the bottom right of the page so that the magazine can be scanned and therefore sold in a shop. I was going to add the price in text just above the bar code, but as the price will be shown on the shelf and by including it on the page it will be a waste of space. The other things i added in this stage was the date and the ghrime web address near the masthead. I included the date as it is a common convention and readers know if its the most recent issue.

In the fourth step i added cover lines at the bottom left of the page, so that readers know who is in this issue. Therefore if a reader sees a name they are interesting in reading about they will then buy the magazine. For the cover lines itself are in back but the plus above them is in white so that it this part of the page stands out as white stands out from a dark background.

I then added my main cover line which was about D.Payne opening up about his past. This like the plus at the bottom left of the page is in white so that it stands out and it should because it is the story that hopefully readers are willing to pay for. The quote "i don't know how i was going to cope" is on two lines and are not straight as it then covers the whole width of the cover line "D.Payne" which makes it look more professional.

The last stage involved two things, the starburst and the second main cover line. The starburst is positioned at the top left of the page which is below the selling line. To stand out on the page the circle is white and the text "limited edition poster inside" is in black so that it stands out on the page. This is important for it to stand out as it could persuaded the reading into buying the magazine as it is "limited edition."The second main cover line is in black and is positioned at the back of the models head in the main image. This is a more popular artist to Skepta for example so even though they both have an article inside, Stormzy has got supporting lines about his article. This is because Stormzy has a bigger fan base so more people would be willing to buy the magazine. So as the magazine makes "more of a fuss" about Stromzy customers will see this before the word Skepta so would want to read the article.
